About us

The Phoenix Concert Band was founded in July 2001 by Geraint Jones, its first Music Director. It was formed to provide adult wind, brass and percussion players the opportunity to perform together as a community wind band. The first rehearsal was held at Ability Mencap, Chesterfield in August 2001. We since moved to our present location, Hasland Methodist Church, as numbers grew.

We have a membership of about 30 players from a range of ages and professions. Players from the counties of Derbyshire, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire borders.

Our aim is to combine the honing of musical skills with a friendly, enjoyable rehearsal atmosphere. We play regular concerts in Hasland. The band has also performed in many other locations such as Bakewell, Chatsworth and various locations in Germany. We also perform fundraising concerts for various charities including the Chesterfield Mayor's Appeal.

Rehearsals

The weekly rehearsals held at Hasland Methodist Church are sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Practising a variety of musical genres, developing our technique and ensemble skills, or just having a cup of tea or coffee and a chat, these rehearsals remain a weekly highlight for all our members.
